Market Research: Demand for a Recruitment Agency

Client: Lancashire Area West Training & Enterprise Council; CareerLink (Careers Service); University of Central Lancashire

The three client organisations were considering the development of a joint venture recruitment agency and commissioned Papworth Research & Consultancy to do the following:

Develop a comprehensive database of companies in the North West operating in competition to CareerLink (i.e. companies offering similar services).

Assess the operation of these companies with regard to such matters as pricing, size of databases, size of company, area of operation etc.

The methodology had two stages, as follows:

Interrogation of Business Pages, on the internet, and of business directories held by CareerLink to compile a comprehensive database.

A telephone survey of companies on the database.
