I found the evaluation report well balanced and informative – it provided us with information and views we didn’t know at the time of commissioning the evaluation and I found this very beneficial.

Transforming Local Infrastructure

Date: May 2012 - October 2013
Client: Brighton & Hove Community and Voluntary Sector Forum
Rachel led and supported a partnership of 19 organisations in Brighton and Hove to achieve the outcomes of a £360,000 project, funded through the Office for Civil Society's Transforming Local Infrastructure fund

One of 74 TLI projects nationally, the main outcome of Brighton & Hove's project was an amalgamation of four of the project's partners to form Community Works, a new organisation with a mandate to lead the city's community and voluntary sector support, and cross-sector contact.

The project:

- reviewed and redesigned support services for Brighton & Hove's community groups and voluntary organisations

- maintained essential services for the sector that would otherwise have been lost (corporate partnership development, training, mentoring)

- developed and tested new services that the city had lacked for years (support for younger people’s volunteering, a properly coordinated and managed consultancy service)

- strengthened partnerships between the city's support providers.

Overall, the project redesigned the city's support services to meet the needs of community groups and voluntary organisations as effectively and efficiently as possible.#

Rachel's role included facilitation, consultation, project management, producing the business plan, ensuring equality and diversity issues were appropriately addressed, managing the budget, documenting the outcomes, awareness raising, representing the project nationally and web-based communication and information sharing (particularly on the project's blog).

"Rachel’s excellent project management skills and wider expertise in stakeholder engagement, business planning, service development and evaluation were integral to the project’s success. I particularly valued Rachel’s attention to detail, clarity of communication, integrity and reflective practice". Sally Polanski, Chief Executive, Brighton & Hove Community & Voluntary Sector Forum
